Southcroft Church is part of Ichthus Christian Fellowship, replanted as an Ichthus congregation from a small team back in the year 2000. Today Southcroft is a vibrant and diverse community of Christians based in Streatham and the surrounding area. Led by Phil and Hayley Tate, we love Jesus and we're committed to his mission in words, works and wonders in the world both locally and in the nations. We are a thriving local church with a variety of ministries which recognise the apostolic leadership of Roger and Faith Forster, who began the Ichthus movement in 1974.
Ichthus Christian Fellowship was founded in 1974 under the leadership of Roger and Faith Forster. We began with the mandate from God to evangelise London and the nations by planting churches of Christ-exalting, Bible-loving believers committed to the Lord Jesus, to His mission and to one another.
By 1982 we had grown from 14 people to around 400 and two new congregations were being planted. Since then, other congregations have been established right across London and Kent, and many other churches in the UK and Europe are linked with us. We also have a thriving overseas missions movement with people working in many nations, with a special focus on the least evangelised nations of the world.

At Southcroft we believe in Servant Leadership. We are led by Phil and Hayley Tate who pray for and serve the church alongside a wider group called the Prayer Planning team who do what the name suggests – we pray and we plan and seek to lead out of a place of prayer and spiritual agreement! We meet every other week to discuss and pray into all aspects of church life. As we are a growing church we are constantly looking to release people into new responsibilities within the church. This team of homegroup leaders, project leaders and worship leaders and those in responsibility meet with Phil and Hayley regularly for encouragement, teaching, vision sharing, prayer, worship and prophecy. Current Prayer Planning members are: Phil + Hayley, Steve, Claire + Luke, Linda and Sam
We meet every Sunday at 11am, for about 90 minutes, with lunch afterwards (except the third Sunday of the month when there’s an Ichthus evening celebration). Our times together provide a great opportunity to build relationships, pray, worship Jesus, listen to God’s word and share food and life with others.
What can I expect? We want you to feel at home; there is no dress code! We give time to worship at the beginning, followed by a talk on the Bible (and children go out to their activities at this point). Our gatherings are informal, fun, engaging and accessible to all ages. During the morning we will sing, as part of a time of worship, hear updates on family news, the projects we support locally and around the world, and pray together.
Prayer is a vital aspect of our life as a church. Everyone is welcome to come at 10.15am on Sundays to pray before we start the meeting. Prayer is part of the life of our homegroups and we regularly gather for longer times of worship and prayer for our community. We are also connected to the Ichthus Prayer Community which gathers every Tuesday and Thursday morning for prayer and Bible Study for the church and issues in the nation. We also connect with believers across Ichthus for our monthly Prayer Day in Forest Hill for more information please see ichthus.org.uk
We love homegroups – we believe that Jesus’ teaching on character and spirituality can only be truly practised in meaningful relationships with other Christians. Homegroups give us a chance to build friendships, listen to the Holy Spirit’s guidance and encouragement together, discuss what God is saying to us through the Bible and challenge each other to keep following after Jesus in our daily lives.
Sharing the good news of Jesus is at the heart of our understanding of mission - we have been commanded to 'go'. We want everyone to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We run a variety of ministries which enable us to do this such as a Gospel dance club in a local school, serving hot meals to the homeless, handing out free hot drinks on a Friday afternoon to passers by to our monthly outreach where we go out into the local area to worship and share the love of Jesus on the streets. We do this by preaching and sharing our testimonies, worshipping, praying and serving in simple acts of kindness.
Jesus himself knew what it was to be homeless (Luke 9:58). Each Thursday we serve a cooked meal, offer a shower, clean clothes and a place of welcome and care as well as a context into which we preach the Gospel to the homeless and those in need. You can find out more about the Community Table on this website or by coming along and introducing yourself to Steve or Sara at Church.
Every Friday we share hot drinks, faith and love with the community between 3pm and 5pm. During this time we open up the church to passers by, set up a table tennis table and welcome folks to meet us, offer prayer and invite people to church. You can find out more about Crofter Coffee here.
Children are a central part of our church life. Each week during the church service the 0-4-year-olds and 5-11-year-olds go into the back hall for games, activities and Bible stories. We have also have a youth group for secondary school-aged children that meets regularly for social activities and Bible study.
